PORTRAITURE ... C
1M-STYLE
This is how we do it.
At Catching-
1-Moment we realize that people are generally uncomfortable posing. In our opinion, this is the result of the rushed and incordial photo sittings that all of us have experienced since our first class picture ("say, cheese!"). We refer to this as the “cattle call” and our goal is to make you feel like … well, anything but a cow.
Catching-
1-Moment takes time to get to know you and ask you what you would like to get out of the session … and just how far you’d like to go in terms of using our digital editing skills. This conversation usually occurs in advance of the shoot so that we can take some time to think about color, composition, lighting, props … anything that will help us to deliver exactly what you want … a fabulous photo (or series of photos). To that end, please consider the following suggestions:
What to wear?
While we want nothing more than for your photo to reflect the real you (including your fabulous fashion sensibility), you may want to choose clothing that is more “timeless” in nature. These classic styles prevent your photo from looking “dated” down the road. Also, “neutral tones” such as black, brown, white, cream, burgundy, shades of blue and beige tend to photograph the best.
Indoors or outdoors?
Well, as time permits, we say both. There are qualities about both locations that bring out different things in you. If you must choose between the two, consider your lifestyle … are you a little bit of country or a little bit of rock & roll? (Sorry if this ‘70’s Donny & Marie Osmond reference was lost on you high school seniors). But seriously, outdoor shots tend to be less formal and studio shots can be more formal (but this is not a hard rule). Consider what the photo will be used for and where it will hang.
For outdoor shots we suggest comfortable relaxed clothes and for studio shots the possibilities are endless … use your imagination. Fear not, we consider ourselves your “image consultant” and will work with you to deliver the results you’re looking for.
How do I prepare?
Ladies: If you were considering getting your hair styled, your nails done or even a facial … now’s the time. Avoid excessive makeup like blue eye shadow. Apply your makeup before your session, but be sure to bring it with you in case it gets smudged during outfit changes or posing.
Gentlemen: A clean shave or groomed beard is ideal. Avoid busy prints on shirts and ties … and for goodness sakes learn to use an iron (or enlist some help).
Some final suggestions:
So that we don't have to Photoshop the bags out from under your eyes, get a good night's sleep before your session. Come in with and open mind and the energy and flexibility to try new things. See you in front of the lens!
